Ensuring a fair Lottery for the nation
£28 billion for good causes
£40 billion in prizes

March News Update

Welcome to the National Lottery Commission’s latest news update. If you would like more information on our work or would like to receive this update by email, you can contact us at info@natlotcomm.gov.uk.

Commercial Services Consultation

The Commission is currently considering an application from Camelot to offer commercial services such as mobile phone top-ups, electronic bill payments and other similar services through National Lottery terminals. We are consulting interested parties in order to identify any European or competition law considerations which we should take into account when reaching our decision. We will also examine these proposals carefully in light of our statutory duties to protect players and safeguard the National Lottery. Third licence: Increasing returns to good causes

New figures show that the National Lottery had already generated over £1 billion for good causes in the first nine months of this financial year; and this doesn’t even include unclaimed prizes or interest payments. The new licence we awarded will give an even greater proportion of money back to good causes. We estimate that there will be additional £60 -100 million each year alone as a result of the changes we have implemented. These latest figures show we are on track to deliver this for the benefit of good causes.

Being more transparent

As a public body, the Commission is committed to being as transparent as we possibly can about our work, our spending and our decisions. As part of our better regulation programme, we are looking to provide even more information on the work we do and regulatory decisions we take. Our Policy on openness explains more about this area of our work.
