Mary Chapman and James Froomberg appointed to the National Lottery Commission

The National Lottery Commission welcomes the appointment of Mary Chapman and James Froomberg as new Commissioners. Both Commissioners have been appointed for a four year term from 14 January 2008 to 13 January 2012. 

Dr Anne Wright CBE, Chair of the Commission said:

_“These appointments come at an important time for the National Lottery, as we work with the operator to ensure the transition to the new Licence is as seamless as possible. James and Mary bring a broad range of experience to the Commission and I wholeheartedly welcome their appointment.”

Notes
1. Mary Chapman has a background in marketing, HR and general management. She is currently Chief Executive of the Chartered Management Institute, leading on vision, strategic development and performance.  Previously, she was the founding Chief Executive of Investors in People UK, the company responsible for the development and quality assurance of the Investors in People Standard. Before that, her career within the L’OREAL UK Group Companies included posts as Director of Personnel Operations and Managing Director of Helena Rubinstein. Mary is also a Council Member of the Girls’ Day School Trust, the largest educational charity in the UK.

2. James Froomberg is a leisure and property industry director with over 20 years experience in the private, public and consultancy sectors.  He is currently the Commercial Director of British Waterways where he leads the development of a number of commercial businesses and public / private partnerships, and is responsible for a £600million property portfolio. James was previously the Director of Corporate Development at Wembley plc, responsible for developing and implementing a new strategy for the Group. Before that, he was the KPMG Partner, leading its UK Leisure, Tourism, Property and PFI consultancy business.

3. This appointment has been made under the provisions of The National Lottery Act 2006, which removes the restrictions on the numbers of Commissioners who can serve at any one time.

4. This appointment has been made in accordance with the OCPA Code of Practice. Commissioners are offered remuneration of £275 per day plus reasonable travel and subsistence expenses. Both James Froomberg and Mary Chapman have declared that they have undertaken no political activity during the last five years.

5. The other five National Lottery Commissioners are Dr Anne Wright CBE, Sarah Thane CBE, Timothy Hornsby CBE, Robert Foster and Deep Sagar.
