Ipsos MORI Young People Omnibus 2011

This report presents findings from the 2011 Young People Omnibus, a survey of secondary school pupils in England and Wales, carried out by the Ipsos MORI Social Research Institute on behalf of the National Lottery Commission.

The overall aim of this study was to explore children’s gambling behaviours, especially amongst those ages 11-15 who are not legally entitled to buy National Lottery tickets. Specifically, the survey set out to cover the following key issues:

  • Children’s rates of gambling on different types of game
  • Gambling patterns and behaviours of underage players of the National Lottery
  • Use of the National Lottery website
  • Awareness of legal ages restrictions for the National Lottery and other age-limited activities.

The Ipsos MORI Young People Omnibus captured data from 2,739 school children aged 11-16 in England and Wales. Children completed self-completion questionnaires in interviewer-supervised classroom sessions between 23 January and 15 April 2011. Data have been weighted by gender, age and region to represent the known profile of secondary-age children in England and Wales.
