Under 16s and the National Lottery, June 2006

In accordance with our duty to ensure there are controls to prevent under 16s from playing the National Lottery, we asked MORI and the International Gaming Research Unit at Nottingham Trent University to conduct a prevalence study to measure the levels of play by 12 to 15 year olds on the National Lottery.

Research aims and objectives

To measure current levels of underage gambling among the 12 to 15 year old age group, including addictive gambling;To identify key socio-demographic trends among those who play the National Lottery whilst underage;To compare levels of underage gambling on the National Lottery with underage participation in other forms of gambling such as fruit machines; andTo assess under 16s’ awareness and understanding of the reasons behind the age restrictions on playing any of the National Lottery Games.  p.
