Ensuring a fair Lottery for the nation
£28 billion for good causes
£40 billion in prizes
Player Anonymity
Condition Breached
Condition 5 of the Section 5 Licence
Description
A winner’s details were faxed in error from a regional office to the Prize Payout department and were subsequently left on the fax over a weekend.
Background
Players have the right to maintain their anonymity unless they sign to request publicity. Camelot is required to ensure that prizewinners’ details are kept secure within Camelot, and are only disclosed to authorised staff.
Regulatory Action
The Commission investigated the possible breach and wrote to Camelot. Camelot accepted the breach and it was recorded on 24 December 2002.
Outcome
The winner’s anonymity was, in the event, maintained. Camelot now prints a copy of the fax journal at the end of each day, in order to reconcile the list of winning ticket validations.
