Draw Procedures
Condition breached
Condition 2 of the Section 5 Licence
Description
The independent auditor failed to pick up two errors regarding the calculation of prize amounts. The errors were on the Lotto Extra game and the match four numbers on the main Lotto game.
Background
Each draw has to follow a series of steps as set out in an approved procedure. This includes the independent auditor checking prize tier calculations to confirm that they are correct. On this occasion the auditor did not pick up on the calculation errors and incorrect prize information was announced. Camelot reported this incident to the Commission.
Regulatory Action
The Commission investigated the issue and wrote to Camelot. Camelot accepted that the licence had been breached and a breach was recorded on 11 June 2003.
Outcome
Camelot raised the issue with the independent auditor, stressing the importance of the role, and received assurances on future performance. The Commission continues to monitor adherence to approved procedures in this as in other areas.
