'Cars N Cash'

Background
Camelot is required to ensure that any material and its content designed to encourage or enable a player to enter into or play a lottery game is accurate, does not mislead players and is compatible with the game rules and procedures for that game.

Condition
Condition 9(31) of the licence granted under Section 5 of the National Lottery etc. Act 1993 (as amended).

Description
On 10 January 2006, between the hours of 15:15 and 17:45, the Interactive Instant Win game ‘Cars N Cash’ was advertised on the National Lottery website homepage as being available to play for £1.  The actual cost to play this game is £2.  

Regulatory Action
The Commission wrote to Camelot, considered its response and subsequently decided that there had been a contravention of the licence requirement.  The Commission decided that the advertising was inaccurate, misleading and incompatible with the game procedures for the ‘Cars N Cash’ game.  The Commission noted that up to 1300 players could have seen the incorrect price for the game.  A licence breach was recorded on 13 July 2006.

Outcome
Camelot has changed its internal procedure to add further checks to try and avoid a repetition of this incident.
