Protecting the National Lottery brand
The National Lottery Commission owns and safeguards the National Lottery brand on behalf of the UK. The brand, (which comprises the crossed fingers and game logos) is one of the most recognised brands in the UK. Under the provisions of the section 5 licence, the Commission grants the operator, Camelot, the right to use National Lottery related intellectual property, including the crossed fingers logo and the game logos.
One of the conditions for use of the brand is that Camelot is required to take appropriate action if the National Lottery brand is being used inappropriately.
Brand development
The Commission has also granted distributing rights to use a version of the crossed fingers logo known as the Common Brand. The Common Brand logo is displayed on Lottery funded projects all over the UK and helps people to identify the positive impact that the National Lottery has had on their local community.
