Section 6 Licences

Each constituent Lottery promoted as part of the National Lottery requires a separate licence under Section 6 of the National Lottery Act.

Section 6 licences operate for a limited time.  There is no restriction on the number of bodies that can hold such licences – although if the section 6 licensee is not the operator (section 5 licensee), then a licence can only be granted with the agreement of the operator.
There are three categories of Lottery game, draw-based games such as Lotto and Thunderball, Scratchcards, and Interactive Instant Win Games (IIWGs), which are played online.

Licences for all the draw-based games are available as PDF documents on this site. You can also view the scratchcard class licence, under which most scratchcards are licensed. Some scratchcards have separate licences because they incorporate aspects that fall outside the class licence.
